Happy New Year!
I sat down today after being inspired by a post on Pinterest, and decided to write down a bucket list for 2018. Unlike previous years where I would write the obvious, generic and general resolutions like: -Get in shape. -Kick ass in school. -Get a new car. -Get healthy, etc. Those general and generic resolutions are honestly always in the back of my mind, so I never really felt that they were really getting me motivated for the new year.
It was time to get creative and think more outside the box. I wanted to write a specific list of things I wanted to accomplish (no matter how big or small) in the new year. More specific things within the general resolution. For example, if I said I wanted to be healthier this year, I would think of specific things to do that would get me to be a healthier person. One of these things might be joining a yoga class, another might be to try following a new diet. This way I have built a path for myself with specific changes I can impose that will help me be healthier. This way, it becomes easier to fulfill those huge resolutions that leave us confused on where to start.
Some of the items on my list are things that can be done in an hour or less and others are things that will take all year to accomplish. Either way, whether I complete all of these resolutions or just a few, I'll be happy. Some of them are probably the silliest things you have ever heard, but they'll make me smile in some way, which covers my general resolution that I think we all have every year, to "be happy". In any case, I'll have accomplished something new, which always makes me feel good.
I can refer to the list at any time and cross things off as I complete them which is right up my ally if you know how much I love lists. For me, I think this list is going to be much more helpful this year, and it might even benefit you if you give it a try.
My 2018 Bucket List:
Get a tatoo
Join a yoga class
Hike a Mountain
Walk behind a waterfall
Fire a gun
Run a Marathon
Go for a sunset Biplane ride
Experience Christmas in New York
Have a beach bon fire
Pay for a strangers coffee at dunkins
Have a romantic balcony dinner
Do one thing every day that scares me
Read 12 Books (minimum)
Try a new food
Visit all the lighthouses on Cape Cod
Spend the fourth of July in Province Town, MA
Write a novel
Volunteer/donate to the dog shelter
Travel to one place I have never been
Learn a new language
Get accepted to a masters program
Sell a piece of artwork
Say yes to everything for a day
Go on a girls road trip
Go parasailing
Camp on the beach
See a concert I have always wanted to see
Bridge jumping
Grow my own garden
Take a pottery class
carve my name on a tree
Learn a song on the piano
Some people may think this list is quite optimistic for just one year, however I personally believe it is better to have more than less. This way, I can go into the new year thinking "whether I complete all of these things or one, I will have accomplished something and feel good about what I have done. This method may or may not work for you and that is perfectly fine, it is just something I have personally found to be helpful going into the new year.
